Gram known as 'Chickpea', 'Bengal gram' or 'Chana' is the most important pulse crop of India. India, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Burma and Turkey are the main gram growing countries. India is the largest producer of Bengal gram in the world, contributing nearly 68.13% of total world production. Production of the gram is extensive in central and southern parts of India such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Punjab.
